I came across The Paisley Cupcake's tutorial on how to make a Hawaiian Straw Lei and it took me back down memory lane. Hubby and I spent three years living in Hawaii while attending university and there is truly no place like it on Earth.
The giving of a Lei is a tradition that I wish we had here in Canada- oh how I miss it! I made a whole boat load of the the straw lei's (although I call them fuzzy fur lei's and make with only 1 straw) to give out at graduation. It's not uncommon to receive so many lei's that you can't see the person's face!
Here we are right after our convocation ceremony...
And here are all the non-candy lei's we got that day...
They were too beautiful to throw away so we hung them in our apartment.
(Ignore the cheap student Christmas decor!)
Whether you're having a luau themed party or want to start a new tradition check out how to make the lei's above.
