diy changing pad cover

We've slowly been getting the baby's nursery (aka a space in our room) ready. We got a change table off of freecycle and after a cleaning, some wood glue and a paint job it was ready to go. Except for the changing pad. I found one on sale at Babies R Us and used a coupon with it to get it down to 50% of the original price. But the changing pad covers were insanely expensive! So I decided to make my own.

I went to the fabric store knowing I'd only buy from the clearance section. I was looking for something with some green in it but couldn't find anything. I did find white terry cloth at 70% off though so I decided to go with that. I used the tutorial found at Prudent Baby and made 2 covers.
I found the elastic a bit too tight on the first one so I added 3 extra inches of elastic the second time. I already had thread so all I had to buy was the material and elastic. I was able to make the two covers for about $3 a piece.

So much cheaper than in the store! And if they get soiled then it's not a big waste of money.

  1. Terry cloth will make for a very practical cover. Making things for a new baby is so much fun!
