As potty training time neared for our oldest I started thinking about how cloth diapers were going to play a role in it. I picked up a Bummis Training Pants and we gave it a go. Unfortunately, the opening in the legs were too big for our son and the diaper often leaked. It was also quite bulky and didn't fit well under his clothes.
Next we tried a Mother-Ease training pant. It was smaller and quite a bit thinner but it was still a bit too big in the legs. I quickly learned the downside to a 'underwear-like' diaper was that cleaning up a poopy mess really was just that- a big poopy mess!
In the end we decided to skip the training pants all together and spend 4 days at home doing the potty training thing with underwear. And it worked!
Nap time and night time still needed some figuring out though. Since we had loved the Sandy's diapers we decided to purchase a number of them in the large size for our son to wear during nap time. We found them super absorbent and they didn't leak. He continues to wear them for naps to this day. And the great thing about them being so adjustable in size is that T is now wearing them for naps as well. They can be done up and the child can slide them on just like underwear but if you have a poopy mess then you can open the snaps the clean them up easily.
We ended up using pull-ups for night time use because J can be a heavy wetter at times. Most mornings he's dry but even the pull-ups leak too at times.
So while we didn't try many of the cloth training pants that are out there we found the Sandy's were the perfect answer for our family.
